What geolocation does EUDR require?
For relevant non-cattle commodities, due-diligence information includes geolocation of the plots where the commodity was produced. If a product contains commodity from multiple plots, all relevant plots must be accounted for. For cattle-related products, geolocation refers to establishments where the cattle were kept.
Why geolocation is more than a coordinate field
A technically valid coordinate is not enough. The operator needs confidence that the location corresponds to the relevant commodity and product or batch.
GeoJSON and the Information System
The EUDR Information System supports bulk location data, including GeoJSON. A practical workflow validates GeoJSON before submission.
Geolocation QA checklist
- Correct longitude/latitude order.
- Valid coordinate ranges.
- Closed polygon rings.
- All production plots included.
- Geometry linked to the correct supplier and batch.
- Production date or time range linked where required.
- Source data retained for later correction or review.
Common errors
Typical problems include reversing coordinates, sending a factory address instead of commodity production location, missing plots in mixed batches and reusing geometry without confirming the same plots supplied the current shipment.
