EUDR for small businesses

Micro and small enterprises can have later application dates or simplified obligations, but the exact treatment depends on whether the company is a primary operator, downstream operator or trader.

When does EUDR apply to small businesses?

Most micro and small enterprises have the 30 June 2027 application date. Micro and small enterprises already covered by the former EU Timber Regulation use 30 December 2026.

Small primary operators

Micro and small primary operators remain upstream actors and still need due diligence, but qualifying primary operators can use a one-time simplified declaration instead of repeated DDS submissions.

Small downstream operators and traders

Following the simplification changes, SME downstream operators and SME traders have reduced obligations focused mainly on record keeping rather than repeating upstream due diligence.

Do not decide obligations from company size alone. Your position in the supply chain matters just as much as SME status.
