Start with three questions: Is the product in Annex I? What is your role? Which company-size category applies? A downstream SME trader can have a different responsibility profile from an upstream operator even when the headline application date is the same.
What changed for products added in 2026?
The 2026 product-scope update added products including soluble coffee, certain palm-oil derivatives and frozen cattle tongues. Those newly added products have the later application date of 30 December 2027.
What should be ready before your date?
- Exact Annex I and CN-code scope confirmation.
- Clear operator / trader / supplier role mapping.
- Supplier, product and country-of-production information.
- Required production geolocation.
- Legality and deforestation-free supporting evidence.
- Risk assessment and mitigation where required.
- The applicable DDS or simplified-declaration workflow.
- A record-retention process for supporting evidence.

Does a later deadline mean I should delay data collection?
